Stick 'em in a Stew

Potato Stew

"Po-tay-toes!  Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew..." (Samwise Gamgee, The Two Towers 2002)

Ingredients (for 12-16 servings, party size)
  • 12-16 large potatoes, peel and cut into 1 inch cubes
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 tablespoons of bacon grease
  • 2 pinches of onion powder
  • 2 pinches of garlic powder
  • 4 tablespoons of flour
  • 1 cup of water
  • 6 tablespoons butter
Directions (30-45 min)
  1. Boil potatoes in a large pot with water that is about three inches above the top of the potatoes in the pot
  2. Cook potatoes until they are soft enough to be probed easily with a fork but don't mush up
  3. In a jar put the flour and water together.  Shake the jar until the flour is completely mingled
  4. Stir the potatoes and add the flour and water
  5. Simmer the water until it thickens
  6. Add more flour if it is not as thick as desired, or water if too thick
  7. Add spices and bacon grease or substitute with only salt and pepper
  8. Enjoy!
